4. Mold Setup

The first thing you need is a flat work surface. For violins, I have a glass plate. For a cello I use a large piece of countertop material.




Placing the mold on the flat surface, I then glue blocks in all the approprite places using diluted and overcooked hide glue (ie. weak glue). The blocks are tack glued to the center part of the mold. I don’t clamp them, just press them into place with a sliding motion.




The mold in this example is the Montagnana mold. When I actually bend the ribs, I will be using my Strad mold from the picture below.
